Description
A typical residence in Haloze (NE of Sovenia) used to be a house made from hewn timber. It was usually erected without foundations and placed only om corner stones. Wooden roof covered with straw was put on cimprane walls ( walls made of mud and straw). In the middle near the rooftop was a chimney made from wooden boards through which smoke went directly from the ceiling of the kitchen. A typical house had a larger room, a smaller room, a small doorway and a "black kitchen". Houses were usually placed on hilltops above vineyards.
