Description
Potica is said to originate from festive, ceremonial bread, which was already in the Middle Ages prepared in western and northwestern Slovenia . The first mention of the name potica is in the Catechism (1575, 1577) by Primož Trubar.
Potica is a roll made of leavened dough.
Roll out the dough and spread it with the filling can be salty or sweet. Potica is round in shape it has a hole in the middle.
Potica gets its characteristic shape because it is baked in a special baking pan called a poticnik. Recipes for potica have been passed down between generations for centuries.
They are mainly passed down within families with written recipes
or by oral tradition. Potica is on the family table especially during the biggest annual events (Easter, Christmas, New Year, feast of church patrons), life events (birth, wedding, funeral, family celebrations) and working (during various major tasks) holidays.
