The Rosary, in the sence of garland of roses, is a form of prayer used especially in the Catholic Church named for the string of knots or beads used to count the component prayers. The concept of the rosary was given to Saint Dominic in an apparition of the Virgin Mary in the year 1214 in the church of Prouille. The rosary is part of Catholic veneration of Mary which is celebrated on 7 October.
